Use your own placenta to recover postpartum

After the birth of my son, I asked a doula to prepare my placenta and encapsulate it in order to recover better during my postpartum.

In Chinese medicine the process of labour and birth is believed to leave open, empty space within the body that is considered to be very yin, or cold. The Chinese believe that after birth, the mother needs to be kept warm and should only eat warm foods and drink warm drinks. A way to promote healing during the postpartum period is to add yang, which is warmth. This effect is produced in placenta encapsulation by the use of steam and warming herbs, creating warming and nourishing capsules.

Apart from encapsulation, there is also placenta balm and tincture that can be useful.

  • Tincture can help with hormonal troubles (pms, mood swings, depression, menopause), booste immune system and warms your body when it’s cold.

  • Balm can help with wound healing, painful nipples from breastfeeding, less visible striae, calming eczema and other skin irritations, baby acne, diaper rash…
